I use Yahoo! Answers often. http://answers.yahoo.com/ What I've noticed is the Featured question(s) are either neutral (which the should be) or they're overtly leftists in nature e.g. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ag0iaVvZlqzYc7s2SA4n7M3sy6IX?qid=20061002042824AAIEPZY http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AohSj77l.y7fcq_JgKf0Oozsy6IX?qid=20060929032754AAIjL75 http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AplqJS4m4FMCbWtUrj3l6hvsy6IX?qid=20060706201547AAy10c8 http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Alcx3GbheNlKiTPK7zgD0Cfsy6IX?qid=20060629201333AAu7EXE These are Featured ie they are portrayed by Yahoo! as something to look at. Personally I don't have a problem seeing these question arising in the norm, but when Yahoo! seems rather one-sided in their highlighted portion, I find it a bit sickening. Frankly they shouldn't highlight anything political, because that purports they support it. It's not that Al Gore or Bono don't have something to talk about, but it's fuckin bonkers that a corporation or union or any conglomerate, forments an agenda among different interests. I don't think there's anything lawful against such, but I find it ethically sad. This goes for any corporation or union that goes left or right in perspective (without due process). Those organization should be as neutral, as reasonable possible ie I don't expect them not to involve themselves when they're getting screwed through legislation.
They probably selected them based on the question and not the answers. There's nothing wrong with selecting questions to ponder. They don't control what people think. The majority of answers will come off as "left," because: 1. A majority of Americans are undereducated in politics. Most studies show that only about 30% of Americans have a general understanding and only 15% have a very good understanding. 2. Given point 1, most people simply parrot whatever they read, hear in class/school/work or see on TV. 3. Given point 2, the mainstream media generally leans a little left, especially right now.
This might be a little off topic but sometimes Ill post on griags list, drop a link, and then see the same post on Yahoo answers, with only very slight variations. I cant be 100% positive but I think much of Yahoo answers posts are made are made by Y employess. Perhaps when they cant think of anything they go scrape griagslist.
How is asking about poverty, global warming or wanting peace "overtly left"? What part disgusts you exactly? How about they feature some "overtly right" questions, i'll start: 1. how many more countries can bush declare war on before he leaves presidency? 2. how many of them there iraqis (terrorists) been killed in our "operation freedom"? 3. how much more tax breaks could we possibly give the rich before the middle class gets angry they're shouldering the burden?
The questions are loaded ie the are almost rhetorical. If they featured question like this (with blogs): Abortions are widespread, how do we stop them? (visit prolife site so and so) or How should we phase out Medicare? (visit killthehomeless.com.) lol Then I wouldn't like it as well. Thousands of people are looking through those blogs linked to those questions. 'Dropping knowlege' [one of the blogs] is so engulfed with extreme left views it's fuckin silly, and Bono's 'One' is Hollyweird's view on political foreign policy...those are overt if people actually take them in full value. I'm sure no one on the left would like if Yahoo Featured those 'right' kind of questions/blogs all the time (with absolutely no featured opposing views). As I said, I don't think they should have any featured political views. If people want to consume their time with stupid loaded question like those...that aren't featured, then so be it. Those are actually just loaded yo-yo questions....extremely common, actually.
No, I just think it's an ethical standard they should voluntarily do. Lack of neutrality in big businesses/Unions is/are an obvious problem
I'd assume that they have some level of mind to realize what they're doing is unethical....I guess I could be wrong.
I got a warning from yahoo answers for hillary clinton's question about breast cancer - lost 10 yahoo points too. Boohoo. Mine was a practical solution too. They asked how do you stop breast cancer. I said ban women. Since they account for 90+% of cases, seems like a good first step. Answer was equally intelligent to the question being asked Yahoo answers is hilarious. I was browsing it yesterday and someone asked (who knows why) what breast size is the best. Someone answered "which ever size I can play with is perfect for me!" I thought that was accurate Yahoo answers is basically a way for people to be lazy. Instead of searching on their own (every question is easily answerable online), it caters to peoples' inherent laziness.
I went through there one night for a section that I'm an expert in (knowledge + experience). Many answers had false information in them. It's basically a glorified chat board full of mostly uneducated people. I did find some good answers (information wise), but they were a rarity.
Yes. They could make it better by methodically finding out whom knows what about what, and that would help anyone ten times more than currently.
Actually most of california is moderate or leaning-right (if land is the consideration)...other than some of the coast. http://www.princeton.edu/~rvdb/JAVA/election2004/purple_america_2004b_small.gif
*Another loaded question, among others. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AsmQLW67aOFtfduIvmLtGUXpy6IX?qid=20061004041359AAbzqVe Featured Question Why is an Iranian nuclear bomb supposed to be more dangerous than an American, Israeli or French? Asked by Dropping Knowledge ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Have you guys ever looked through yahoo news message boards? http://news.messages.yahoo.com/bbs?...5&sid=37138445&tid=nmmexicoaztecsdc&start=540 Fuckin racists shit going down daily. I look through them and never do I not see hateful shit about either the president, other races, or idealogies....and sometimes the article has nothing to do with what they're talking about. Just a few of the gems threads (in the above link): THE ARYAN RACE CREATED ALL CIVILIZATION GIVE TEXAS BACK TO MEXICO Re: FACT: Mexicans were Savage People Go fuck a taco, you dirty spic GRINGOS BELIEVE TACO BELL IS MEXICAN Re: I fucking hate gringos ................Almost as much quality as the threads in here, sometimes.
The yahoo news boards are great! The intelligence expressed there is mind-boggling. Here's the actual deal with the yahoo boards. Back in the day, people actually took time to debate the issue; but since the same 100 or so people post there everyday - it's gotten to the point of "why bother?" so insults are just thrown back and forth. Throw in a bunch of random racists, bigots, etc ... some "chicks" who put boobies in their profile so fat naked guys will talk about them....and there you have it. a yahoo message board.
