What's been your experience with yahoo answers when it comes to posting your website? Has anyone found a happy medium when it comes to posting questions or answers with out getting booted?

Really depends on how smartly u can embed your link in the content so that it is not flagged as spam and also you should have some good reputation.

Pretty rubbish way to promote a website really, it's just spamming. Plus it isn't targeted traffic anyway, and the majority of people will simply click your link then close the window, so the traffic isn't of any use. Plus if people keep spamming these good services, you are just destroying the pleasure of using them. Sorry, I don't mean to rabble on and sound like an moaning old man, but please promote your website more constructivly.

Why are you saying its not targeted traffic?
The way I do it, is to post only in questions that are in the same field as my website. And it makes the traffic on the point for my website. I know that I have a specific one, but this is the way I do it.
Posting in any questions would be just spam, I agree on that

Well that's fair enough, but it's unethical, but then again if you can make use of it I take my hat of to you. Just I wouldn't do it myself unless my answer was genuine.

If what's on your site is the answer to the question, then post the link, and you will not be banned, and you will get some best answer votes.
But if the question is "where in Florida can I get flowers for my wedding?" , you will get pulled for being spam if you try and plug your proxy site. You won't if you have a site that delivers flowers in the U.S.A.

In my experience yahoo answers is just not worth the time you put in to actually give quality answers to people's questions. In order to get good honest traffic you have to answer a lot of questions, and answer them well, and answer them in such a way that a link back to your site seems like an extension of your answer. e.g. "for more info check out this page ..." and all that effort for a nofollow link ... there's better ways to spend your time imho.

If you're going to spend that much time writing quality content why not just put it on your own site instead of giving it over to yahoo?

I guess it really does depend on your niche however. And if one of your answers shows up in the high pages of yahoo serps then you can hit the jackpot.

I gave up on Yahoo Answers. Seems like a waste of time to me. I only tried it to see if I could make an interesting blog post.*

*My opinion. No one has to agree with me. Some people have been successful.
