Yahoo Algorithm Update?

Discussion in 'Yahoo' started by vansterdam, Mar 31, 2009.

On March 27th we noticed that our Yahoo traffic started to drop. We lost a lot of our top rankings that we had held for months. Luckily we still retained some rankings, but we now are getting about 50% of our normal Yahoo traffic.

Has anyone else noticed a drop in Yahoo rankings around the same time? Does anyone know if there has been recent changes to Yahoo's algorithm?

Thanks in advance for any insight you can provide.

I noticed the exact same thing at the exact same time. Very bizarre as my rankings in Google remained the same.

I think Google is beginning to shake things up also.

Are the changes in Yahoo converting into traffic for you?

Well I'm a little relieved that this problem may not be just affecting our website. It most likely was some type of algorithm update then. Now comes the painstaking process of trying to figure out what changed and why some rankings remained and some were lost.

Are you suggesting there was a 'big' algo change rather than the usual tweak here and there?

Well 'big' is a subjective word. For us it was big as we lost half our Yahoo rankings. I'm sure there are plenty of other websites who were not affected so much. Other people ended up improving rankings. So some people may consider it a small change.

There is another Yahoo algorithm/ranking drop thread in this category that also started on March 27th. So it is clearly affecting other people at the exact same time which indicates that it is not a site specific problem. As most people watch their Google traffic more closely, they probably haven't even noticed changes in their Yahoo traffic.

Suddenly, despite getting hundreds of visitors from Google, I am now getting ZERO from Yahoo. Makes no sense.
