That's the problem. Nobody knows. I've seen people banned for 70% international traffic, and people banned for 30% international traffic. YPN won't reveal a number. However, according to the TOS, even 0.00000001% international traffic is grounds for termination.
It was stated in their TOS you had to agree to when you signed up. How is this unfair? It does? Section 9.G As of the date that you enter into this Agreement and for as long as you participate in the Beta Program, you represent warrant and covenant that: you are a US-based business and you are operating Your Site and/or Your RSS Feed solely for viewing and use by users within the US; It sounds like your site has to be solely for U.S. traffic, it DOES NOT STATE you can't have any non-US traffic... Actually no, the rules don't say that, please stop spreading false information and creating rumors. Termination: We may suspend or terminate our provision of Matched Ads to you at any time, with or without notice, for any reason or no reason, with or without regard for how well Your Site or Your RSS Feed is performing, the quality of user traffic coming from Your Site or Your RSS Feed, or any other factor, in Overture's sole discretion. Do you believe everything someone says on the internet? Having a bunch of new people come and make 1-2 posts badmouthing YPN is not helping anyone. These people have no credibility nor do they have any proof of whats happened. If you let those kind of people 'persuade' or 'change' your opinion/views on subjects then you are an extremely gullible person. Now if 5 or so of the long term (respected) members here who had tried YPN were saying they had been banned.. you would have much more reason to believe them...
MORE FALSE INFORMATION (LIES). We may suspend or terminate our provision of Matched Ads to you at any time, with or without notice, for any reason or no reason, with or without regard for how well Your Site or Your RSS Feed is performing, the quality of user traffic coming from Your Site or Your RSS Feed, or any other factor, in Overture's sole discretion. Where you come up with this crap about Non-US traffic can only be a certain percent, or none at all, is beyond me. They clearly state your site has to be solely for US traffic, it DOES NOT state you can't get visitors from non US. It does not state you can only have a certain percentage. IT DOES STATE they can ban you at any time for any reason and you agreed to it. People, please learn how to read before you agree to something.
It does. Section 11.j Abuse of Services. You agree not to: display all or part of the Ad Unit to any user located outside the US;
You otherwise sound like a very reasonable person. I wish you'd cut stuff like this out. I'm honestly trying to help other publishers out. Yes, my account was terminated fully in accordance with the terms. They were well within their rights to. I should have been more careful. I think they could have handled it better, and I'm trying to help in that regard.
Sadly this has been happening. While not long time users of YPN there are many respected Google Adsense publisher that tried out the YPN thing and have run into the same problems. GrantMD from day one has never bad mouthed YPN and even stands up for YPN in other threads on this same subject. The issue is not that they CAN ban you it is the fact they do BAN people for this. I quoted this in another thread here about the only information on this subject. The term predominantly is defined: much greater in number or influence So, in legal terms, what does that mean? 2,5, 10, 20, 30, 40 times more? Now on to the only official Word of this in the TOS it implies that Overture will only make adjustments. YOYO is right yahoo can ban you for any reason and most of the people who have posted about being banned for international traffic are really not upset about having to wait a few extra months to use YPN again it is more of the not knowing about the finances that SEEMS to make them UPSET.
Ah, I missed that part reading over it again. Well there it is, it states that it's an abuse of services, and under termination they state it's at their sole discretion, so it's really up to them who they want to ban or not. It would make things easier if they provided a way to limit they're ads only to US visitors, etc - but it is a BETA program, and it is their program. We're abiding to their rules fair or not. I don't mean to be rude - and to be honest when I write things they can come out the wrong way (or be interpretted the wrong way). I have nothing against you... I'm just tired of all the criticism everyone giving YPN.
This is where I have to agree. BETA's are such a crazy beast that I could see them kicking people out for picking their noses when placing the code. So I do not stress too much about this. Heard rumors they may go international as soon as the end of Feb so all those banned for international clicks are back in then.
You know what, i have been working on the phpadsnew and maxmind thing for 3 days more but still havent got it working. I am using two ads unit in one page, when i have the phpadsnew thing up, i see sometimes one ad ypn and one ad google adsense. I can't test out things much and i am afraid the time i am testing, people might click on one of the ads and i got banned for both, displaying two different ad companines at the same time. Everytime i come back to check, i see more threads of people getting banned. So, this is a very sad story.
Not really. I had 2 of my friends who got their ass kicked by YPN also receive the same explanation from Yahoo. Their website receive too much international visitors. Sounds really strange! But that is the fact.
Looks like the end for YPN is near - like chitika and their reputation is gone too. I just remember that I haven't used yahoo search for nealy 2 months now and I'm not missing it either.
The end isn't near for Yahoo....remember, this is still Beta. And remember, Google kicks people out all the time without real explanation AND without pay. I still think Yahoo has a good chance. If they get their ad targeting down and keep up with the good payouts, who would possibly use Google? Google has AMAZING targeting but horrendous payouts for 99% of topics. There's no reason why we shouldn't be getting 50 cents a click in almost all cases. Google is greedy and wants to please their stockholders...and they don't care about publishers, so we are paying the price. If yahoo doesn't fall into that same situation, no one will use Google....forcing Google to give us more money. With YPN, it puts us as publishers in a much better situation. Now let's hope MSN comes out with one more. Then PPC companies can actually compete for our attention instead of treating us like garbage.
I totally Agree. I hope That there will be some healthy competition in the industry that will cause the payouts to go up across the industry. The NICE part about YPN's bannings is people are getting kicked out for international traffic. When they go worldwide those publishers(that got kicked) will be able to particpate again. And, from the looks of it. All publishers who have been kicked seem to also be getting paid(from info from posts here on DP)for the US traffic that they did send.
Is there a Perl/CGI way to this? Several of my sites are running Perl, and use CGI and SSI. Thanks, Adam
I agree...and you're hot...but back to the point. if you get banned, atleast share your website with us, so we know that you were legit simply by browsing your website. Besides the internation thingy, I'm sure some webmasters have violated one of their terms...*guessing, and assuming only and pointing it at anyone*
if you your account terminated. how can u reinstall back your account? is that possible? how to do that?
