y we use www before the start of domain

y we use www. before the start of domain name though most of site open without putting www in browser.

tell me the reason y we use www.domain.com
technical reason are expected ??

plz tell me those sites which is not open without using www

 

WWW stands for World Wide Web. It simply tells your browser that it is going into the internet, instead of browsing your computer. It isn't necesary, but I think some sited do require it.

 

I think it is a habit.

 

But some website don't need www, some does... I don't get it.

 

better response is expected .... plz if u know this then only answer technical ones

The "www" prefix has no meaning in the way the main Web site is shown. The "www" prefix is simply one choice for a Web site's subdomain name.

 

But some site won't work without the www for me. :s

Some sites don't work because of their domain settings in the hosting control panel. Many quality hosts can give you the option of setting a preference of using the www. or not using the www. Also when a site runs a script that was installed via web, it will set it standard to which ever method the installer used when setting it up many times.

i think u have given the most accurate response, till the time. ya only dedicated server provides this setting option. but the basic is y for long time we use. does www support any platform of any kind. does it mean more than than that it is for web purpose. y many sites doesn't run without www
