    Maybe it is the problem of your forum's content are more unique and popular. Something like that, the quality of content makes the difference.

    Because the content in your forum contains good keywords and your main site does not. Use these keywords in your main site.

    Check the backlinks for your forum and main site. Did you use sub forum for your forum? PageRank is main related with backlinks and linked page's PR.
