On June 1, 2005, ICANN officially approved the .xxx domain to serve the online adult-entertainment industry. According to the selected .xxx registry operator, "The .xxx sponsored top-level domain will create a clearly identifiable area of the Internet that will empower families and help protect children and others from unwanted or inappropriate content. The existence of the sponsored TLD would facilitate meaningful, voluntary self-organization and self-regulation by responsible adult-entertainment website operators.". Availability is expected early in 2006.

I'm wondering if any "cyber-squatters" out there plan on snatching some of these up for use or resale?

Given the chance, I'll snap up a couple of the nice ones.
I'd imagine that some would be worth quite a bit to the right person. Something like sex.xxx would probably fetch quite a chunk of $$'s.

    From ICANN site :

ICANN has posted correspondence from the Chairman of ICANN's Governmental Advisory Committee to ICANN's Board of Directors expressing concerns about the proposal to approve the delegation of the .XXX sponsored Top Level Domain. The GAC Chair reports that there are a wide range of views regarding the potential delegation of .XXX, and recommends that the Board should allow time for additional governmental and public policy concerns to be expressed before reaching a final decision on this TLD.

Is there something I missed? Is it approved now?
