When you download and install XP3, do you have to backup your files etc or does it not matter?

I have not had any problems with SP3 either, kind of strange that it replaced you wifi driver, is it possible that you selected a optional update which included a new wireless driver, sometimes the drivers from MS end up breaking things instead of updating them the right way.
