Yes you can. But try to do anything with Web 2.0 and the plugin messages begin to appear. I had Flash installed on my system and although I downloaded the plugin multiple times it would not work....not to mention media player plug in or worse Quick Time.
Can you post some sites to try to reproduce it? I can use (under XP) all media formats, Flash, Quicktime, WMV, MP3 etc in Firefox without problems and no extensions to install. about the plugins this may be related to Vista/Firefox combination issues, but I can't talk because I don't use Vista.
if you all knew what MS marketing plans are.... as of now, I don't believe they would replace xp that fast.. they're too g@y to do that. they're just trying to pressure the users to buy vista!
Really... I work for a global company that is about to roll out Vista as the computer are replaced which are on 4 year cycle. Most of which will be replaced starting January of 2008.
If you get a new computer and it just so happens to have Vista on it, then I believe that Microsoft has some type of reverse licensing deal to where if own a copy of Vista, then any previous version of their OS may be installed on that computer using the vista license to make it a legit copy. You may have to contact microsoft or the pc manufacturer to get the media though. But if you are using a ink jet printer then I would just buy another printer.
Before IE7 came out, I had switched to Firefox and liked it, but only after installing a number of extensions and a decent theme. The active x thing is really annoying with Firefox. The web standards thing is annoying as well. IE will view either page. Firefox will only properly display the web standards pages. IE7 is better only because I don't have to install and keep track of and update all the extensions like I would for Firefox. Firefox would be better if it handled the active x components better and if it would just release extension packs every month or so. That way you could just download all the extensions available and install them through a gui for the ones you want. Instead of having to track them down on their website. Until then I have returned to using IE7. Even though IE7 would be better if it added some of the user created extensions that Firefox has.
Windows XP is the best just because it runs super fast and stable! And for a gamer that is just a dream come true Vista, i reformatted with vista in 30 minutes playing a video game, its just sooo terrible, and 90% of the games now dont even frigin support it. I hope the next windows will have modes, like a gaming mode would be awesome, restarts and doesnt load all the useless drivers/themes etc! Tyler
That is an interesting concept... maybe you should send that suggestion to Microsoft. In about 10 years it will be implemented. One strategy you could employ at the moment to accomplish that would be to use Virtual PC. Setup one virtual environment tailored to your gaming and the other environment tailored to normal stuff. So maybe microsoft should just incorporate virtual environments into their OS. It would make it a lot easier.
Yes, XP is a great OS. When SP3 comes out, it will be even better! It will be a long, long time before I switch to Vista. Hell, Windows 7 will probably be out before I switch to Vista.
I don't use FF at the moment. But when I get my desktop back from the works I'll give you a couple of the sites.
Wrong, IE breaks on many perfectly standard pages. The reason you don't see it is because everyone writes seperate IE-only code to make their website work in both. Then the simple answer is: Don't install extensions! Activex is propriatory Microsoft technology which isn't supported by Firefox, and which I have, so far, never had a problem with not using. You just don't seem to get it with extensions: They're user-created. Mozilla can't just say "Right, we're going to get all those extensions released and up-to-date by so-and-so date and no one is going to release any before that!" So you're going with the one which can't install any extensions over the one which can but makes you put a small amount of effort into choosing them? Yeah, sure, that might even work if you had 5gb of RAM! Seriously, though, virtualisation eats resources for no incredible benefit if all it's doing is running another copy of the OS you're already running natively.
I don't think so. People who needs reliable system will continue use xp I'm still using xp. unless vista comes up with a very much improved version. Vista has many problems and some software I used on xp, vista cannot support. The security is uncessary and troublesome. Other than nice interface, vista is wasting my system resources. If I want nice interface, I use imac
Yes but vista is not reliable without antivirus either even with wondows defiender and the other crap windows gives you
This is true... but I can't live without my start menu search tool and the window previews on the taskbar. I like the new alt-tab tranluscent windows feature. I like the fact that chess is finally included as part of the games. I like the look of vista better. Other than that I can't think of any other benefits to vista. Directory structure is a little better. But if you want a faster system then definitely keep using xp, unless you have a minimum of 2 GB of ram, and have a dual core processor.
Vista took some getting used to, but overall I will say that it's not half as bad as everyone keeps saying it is. I do prefer some elements from XP, however.
I will continue using XP as long as I possibly can. First of all, I like it, and secondly I have a real aversion to purchasing anything that someone (like Bill Gates) tries to shove down my throat with threats of discontinuing support for a product I paid good money for! The guy makes Midas look like a pauper for Pete's sake. He sure doesn't have to use extortion methods to feed the kitty!
