Xp for me...waiting for final release for SP3 which is scheduled this 28 April ;)

Hoping... I'll not need this Vista thing for another year or two after this SP3 release :)

I have heard Microsoft is going to go on licensing XP until 2010, so I am sure I will stick to this operating system till 2010. When I buy a supercomputer I will be able to test Vista. I just love having old-fashioned computers...

XP - I think M$ are going to struggle to beat it.
Vista is a waste of time

Recently switched back to XP. Vista idleing at 40% memory usage with 2gb of RAM - not acceptable really. And then when you need to open PS, FW and DW things start to get really very slow...

The truth is that most people said it was better Xp and that the Vista is as the Millennium, but it is certainly by the money, and therefore have not been able play and compare, I like Vista.

Although MS did extend the shelf life by 5 months or so, after June 30, you'll no longer be able to buy new copies of XP at retailers.

Count me as a XP user on one partition, Linux on the other.

Sorry , divorced with microsoft , now use onli linux ! Stable, no viruses, fast at any machine, excellent networking ,good looking, programmer friendly ! No need in programs purchasing , everything in open source. Compare it with microsoft ... Vista and xp : Slow at any machine, needs 1000 programs to secure from viruses, needs firewall, needs defragment, has bugs in memory allocating, you pay for programms that slow down your computer ... You pay for windows installation (purchasing a disc ) . Is microsoft a pc future ?? I really don't think so, Their last version of windows is collapse .

So it looks like hands down it is XP and not Vista. To bad they are phasing out XP completely in the next few months,

I love XP. Vista is a boon to mankind. Any feedback on Ubuntu I heard it has a lot of good features.

    I've tried Ubuntu (and Puppy).
They're very stable and are great at multitasking. You don't need any anti-virus or anti-spyware programs (and you probably don't need a firewall, either, as long as you keep all your programs up-to-date--and I believe Ubuntu has a utility built in for daily software updates)
Since it runs less background processes, a tuned Linux system will probably be faster than a tuned XP system on just about any hardware.
The main reason I haven't switched from XP to Ubuntu is laziness and having to re-download all of the programs I have. (Although if you do video editing, there are apparently several sweet linux-only apps for NLVE)
If I had Vista, I would probably go ahead and switch instead of deal with the horrible application speed issues and instability.

Microsoft is moving more and more towards making things easy for the "average user" and making things less productive for power users and programmers.
They will probably keep their desktop operating system monopoly for a long time.
But according to my stats (and others), Mac market share is climbing rapidly. All the people who make their living working with computers (Professional computer users, not amateurs) seem to be moving to Mac and Linux.

There's Wine if you need to run Windows programs on Linux. (Although there are FOSS replacements for almost everything).

And if you want to get games to run on Linux, there's Cadega (not free) which will let you run games. (And it has Direct3D 9 support. :D) Plus there are all the open-source games.
