I voted for XP because I prefer stability than appearance

It really depends on the computer you have and your level of experience using Windows operating systems.

Vista requires a faster processor and more RAM, so if your computer is not fast and doesn't have 2gb of RAM or more, you probably will not like Vista. XP can run pretty smoothly running with only 512mb of RAM and would be amazing running 2 or 3gb of RAM.

Vista has a lot of nice features but the main complaints with it are the usage of system resources for just booting up and doing simple tasks. You can solve this issue by turning off Aero or simply just upgrading to 2 or 3gb of RAM or more (if you have Vista 64-bit).

Another major complaint is with UAC (user account control) - it's the annoying pop-ups every time you try to install/uninstall or make any system changes. It there to prevent virues, etc from taking over your computer, however, I don't think it really does any good because I have yet to see it prevent any viruses. UAC can be turned off too...so both of the issues with Vista can be easily fixed, and with the release of SP1, most of the bugs have been worked out and SP2 could be coming out in a few months to fix even more issues.

I also voted XP. I think if you want appearance, you should install linux + compiz fusion.

As per my experience XP is best and in XP service pack 2 is best, vista is so much complicated than the XP

It took me over an hour to install Roxio Creator 2009 on a Vista machine. The same install on my XP machine took about 7 minutes. What a joke. . . exept I wasn't laughing at the time.

If you are used to xp, stick with it. My girlfriend got vista on her computer, and I am having to relearn where everything is every time she has a question. (I'm the IT support in the relationship)

I've tried both switching back and forth a couple of times and I must say that even though vista has kinks that need to be worked out it is still a better OS to me.
