I do agree with it. Vista needs better hardware.

I like Vista better. I've been using it for a year now and all you have to do is tweak around some settings and turn some things off. It might be a big resource hog but with all the features, I think it's worth it. I've tried using XP and I just couldn't stand the way it looked and had to switch back to Vista right away.

using xp at work, vista at home. my 2c - they're both too bloated and slow. i can't think of anything that vista has given me that xp doesn't have. also, the intrusive security/user acct control stuff that vista inflicts on you is a pain in the arse.

actually, now that i think about it microsoft could fall in a crater and die and I wouldn't miss em..

If you don't need to install a lot of apps then maybe vista will be okay if you're hardware is up to it. However, if you need to install a lot of apps then you may run into compatibility/dependency issues. I installed vista ultimate (32bit) but ended up rolling back to xp because vista basically stopped working (start menu stopped working, OS stopped responding, etc.) after i installed a few programs.

I can see why companies are reluctant to roll out vista to their employees and why Microsoft has extended XP's life...again.

Use XP until windows release a new OS, it will be cheaper and more effective on your part.

Summarised if your average with computers
Install XP because it allows you to run more programs without crashing, because vista itself uses so much RAM. Tested on my desktop.

Summarised if your advance with computers
Install XP (or maybe even Linux if you can handle it)
Once you install one of the above, install a Vista virtual operating system using VMware or similar software, if you want the eye candy.

Hope my advice helps you! Good Luck.

XP. Faster, cheaper, and requires less system resources so there are more leftover for applications you are running. Also more compatible with older games, and much more customisable (themes, registry tweaks, etc)
