I recently got a new high-end desktop PC, mainly for gaming.. It came with Vista home premium installed.. When playing new games such as crysis I found in Vista that my framerates were still quite bad even for a powerful machine... I installed XP on a seperate partition and crysis works perfectly Anyone else have this experience with Vista? I thought it was meant to be better for gaming than XP
Vista will suck up your RAM usage and it'll show when you're having slowdown issues with modern games. I'd suggest having 4 GBs of RAM...2 GBs will not cut it at all.
I had the same problem playing counter strike source on vista, I found out that it was all those aero effects hogging up everything in the background, So i disabled them and things ran a little better....But not much. from a pitiful 15fps to 22, I installed Xp and now i get a cool 80fps. I guess I don't hate vista, I just hate what it does to my applications, As it comes its a nice operating system.
Also it should be noted that Crysis was apparently designed for some hypothetical future computer from space *WHOOSH!*
Some games need Vista though I've found that most stuff works OK on Vista - turn off Aero if you're having trouble - it should help a lot.
I still find Vista to be too much of a memory hog. Now don't get me wrong, it was designed quite well to handle a CPU load, even with my quadcore processor it's hard to get it to mess up, but as was previously stated, 2gb of ram just doesn't cut it when over 70% of memory usage is being utilized. Yay for XP!
Hello, my situation is the same but reverse.i bought a new pc recently and in crysis i feel that my vista fps are actually better compared with windows xp +some graffic glitches but thats probably driver related (i needed to go back to xp due to some programs not working).
