Xoops/Joomla Article Management system?

I have xoops on a server (actually I don't know if the company is still in business. If they aren't, I'll get a new host) and I need an article management system. I know xoops has the article module, but I need one thing in particular:

The ability to have sections on the front page that show the latest news from a specific category only on the front page, such as the page at http://www.nanowrimo.org/

Also, if you know of a way to do this with Joomla, it would be greatly appreciated. :D

I suggest you to try drupal.org

It is fairly easy to achieve with drupal

You could go for Drupal or Joomla. I prefer working with Joomla.

I actually experiment alot, so I have used drupal, xoops, and joomla. The problem is that I can't figure it out on any of them!

At the moment, I am playing around with joomla and learning as much as I can. And it seems good enough.
