This is the inverted Google Sandbox. It's also rediculous though.

What's the chance you think a brand new, 2 weeks old site would rank page 1 for 'watches' without ANY links to it yet (maybe one or two un-anchor-optimized).

Well MSN just did that with our new shop. And another single word that shows 3.2m results.

I aint complaining but it doesn't give them much credibility either. I don't feel I should be #9 for that word or #4 for that other word. I almost feel ashamed towards those that have put in hard work.

Maybe it's all about on-page stuff entirely for MSN?

I used to be able to Co-op my way to #1 for any given phrase in MSN but today it seems IBLs are ignored.

Too bad no-one in the UK uses MSN search so even with suprisingly high rankings I probably get less than a dozen people this weekend.

Anyone still keeping up high hopes for MSN?

High hopes is about all I have for MSN right now:cool:

I've had top billing with them for some terms I shouldn't have...and am nowhjere to found for some terms I think I should actually place for.

Thank god MSN delivered less traffic than Yahoo & Google:)

    Almost but not entirely :)

They started using a neural net they call RankNet in mid June.

So why do I rank #4 for a well-known brand name that features once on the homepage and once on an empty subcategory? Without any links?

    Obviously RankNet is imperfect :)

Will be interesting to see where it is in a couple of weeks for the same search term. If it's still there I would like to take a very close look please - if you agree.

I'm currently ranking #2 for Video Game Cheats on a site that I haven't touched other than Co-op in a month. :S

That's because Tal Shaked was working at Microsoft Research in 2004 (presumably on RankNet) and then moved to Google in Oct 2004.
An interesting person, he was World Junior Chess Champion in 1997 :)

I got #1 for "Home Insurance" on MSN US for a site that had been online less that 2 weeks - and it was all made up of syndicated content...

    MSN is a joke.

Update: Not on first 3 pages for 'Watches' anymore but #5 for the other word, which is 'Timex' (UK SERPs I checked). We have got more content relating to this now but still no links.

I can only echo that with top MSN rankings even for relatively competitive terms the traffic source is never that great from MSN.

On paper I'd expect it to be a lot more with IE being the standard browser and MSN being the default home and search page etc. etc.

Referrals I see from MSN equate to those on the 2nd or even 3rd page from Y! and Google

I believe MSN takes high consideration into "last update" or "fresh content" times... the newer the content (brand new) the better.
