Does google care when it crawls if your sitemap is in a paticular format? I know it can read .txt the same but would it be better not? Thanks
They are both the same.. If google would prefer one over the other it would be ludicrous. You will not get better rankings if you use XML over txt nor the other way around. Think about it. Wouldn't that be absolutely stupid if they did?
Sitemaps is an open protocol that any bot can read if they so want to : http://www.sitemaps.org/protocol.php The big search engines all support both formats.
