    look friend, i think you are confused with your question some where because atom feed is also generated by xml tags. there are two xml feeds 1. rss feed 2. atom feed. Mostly sites approve rss feeds and atom feeds and both have same format.

    both rss and atom are two kinds of feed but rss is the newest form of feed and it is the most used now
