I spent sometime to create a XML Sitemap for my Business directory website: www.sapujagat.com I already submitted the same to Google Sitemap as I followed their protocol. It is approved. I would like to achieve the most with this. Which other Search Engines can I submit this Sitemap to? I also have robots.txt for Search Engines.
you don't need to submit the sitemap. The bots that conform to the protocol will check your robots.txt for your sitemap url. All you need to do is add this line to the top of your robots.txt (replace example. com with your website) Sitemap: http: // www . example . com/sitemap.xml or if you use a compressed sitemap to conserve bandwidth Sitemap: http: // www . example . com/sitemap.xml.gz (had to add spaces because of my posting restrictions)
This sitemaps tutorial shows how to use your robots.txt to automatically let search engines know about your xml sitemap
Yahoo - http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/ ASK - http://submissions.ask.com/ping?sitemap=http://www.yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml ( e.g. mine - http://submissions.ask.com/ping?sitemap=http://www.goshopuk.net/sitemap.xml ) MSN - http://api.moreover.com/ping?u=http://yourdomain.com/yoursitemap.xml (e.g. mine - http://api.moreover.com/ping?u=http://goshopuk.net/sitemap.xml ) poplarman - http://www.goshopuk.net/
MSN has recently launched MSN webmaster like Google webmaster tool. You can also submit .xml sitemap in msn webmaster . http://webmaster.live.com/
Hi- I just wrote a SEO article on this on my SEO Blog - but basically as said by someone else earlier you can just place the URL of your sitemap in your robots.txt file and the SE's will find it.
If you want to add sitemap.xml in your robots.txt..you do not need to allow or deny anything..just paste your sitemap url in the last of your robots.txt for autodiscovery..like Sitemap: www[dot]yourdomain[dot]com/sitemap.xml
