"Xmas" or "Christmas"?

So what is it with taking Christ out of Christmas? This is supposed to be a Christian holiday, anyway.

Screw political correctness. Keep Christ in Christmas. You don't need to believe in Christ to say "Christ". If you don't believe in Creationism, you might as well not say the word "Create". It's just as ridiculous. It's almost offensive... like "Get Christ outa my face... I want nothing to do with Him so much that I don't even wanna hear his name! Ech! Get that sound away from my EARS! Did I just hear the name 'Jesus Christ'???? Ewww!"

It appalls me that people think that yet say the F word every other sentence.

    I agree.

It's been Christmas, leave it Christmas.

However, I rarely hear people call it "Xmas" anymore.

You DO realize that's basically taking Christ out of Christmas? It has the same amount of syllables when spoken, and when typed, the word "Christ" can flow through the fingers like water pouring through them. It's pretty easy, I don't see why not go to the extra trouble to type 5 extra characters? Hitting the "X" key is harder for me, anyway.

People are stupid and so are Politicians. Everyone rather try be politically correct than try solve real issues that actually matter and make a difference. It’s Christmas and that’s the way it’s going to stay for me.

It's shorthand or an abbreviation for "Christ". I know a lot of Christians get huffy over "Xmas" but if you know the origin then there's nothing to make a fuss over. I'm a Christian and although I've never said "Eks-mas" I write it sometimes.

    Why get cross about Xmas?

I still do not agree with "Xing" Christ out of Christmas. I don't care if it's an abbreviation or not, most people use X because of their dumb PC retardedness.

I have seen nothing to indicate that Xmas is a pc term used to take Christ out of the holiday. Other than your perception, what makes you think this?

Please point to any group or person who using it for that purpose.

Otherwise, it just looks like you trying to make something out of nothing.

Is there some store or something in particular that you saw doing this?

Actually, I've heard quite differently: I've heard it to be in line with what early churches used in writing Christ's name: the Greek XRISTOS (Χριστος) was shortened in many instances to "Chi," i.e., "X" in early Christian manuscripts, and so the use of "X" is nothing derogatory, in fact, quite the opposite, it holds historically valid weight, and is continued today in many Eastern Rite and Orthodox lineages.

Although I do not hold any religious beliefs, I would imagine the Christ of "when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place" could care less what his name is made out to be.

His message resides in the heart, does it not, not encased in a set of ink-block scribblings?

My line of thinking is simple: why not just say "Christ"? I don't care what the Greeks did.

Also, here's a recent debate about God, Christ, and whether we should be able to mention him: http://www.digg.com/offbeat_news/Original_Pledge_of_Allegiance_Didn_t_Mention_God

I mean, seriously, what's the big deal about saying the word "God" or "Christ"? It's not just "XMas" that can cause a fuss; it's the whole God/Religion thing.... why do people care so much? IMO, they're making this more of something than it was: nothing.

Well dont you think it more over because people have a tendency to shorten things...

do not know - became dunno
    want to - became wanna

its not the word but the pronunciation that makes the difference, people usually say g'mornin instead of good morning and a lot even write g'morn.

Its the evolution of dialects, no other real reason behind it, from my point of view.

    they're actually both politically correct.

both Xmas and Christmas mean the same time.

In Greek, X is means Christ so saying Xmas is just shorthand Greek for saying Christmas.

    They are the same.
