XHTML and SEO?

    My friends recommended me to make my site valid XHTML.

    Just wanna ask what's the benefits? Is it Search Engine friendly?

    i have seen plenty of sites ranked high in search engines that dont pass the validation

    It is a trend validation is of course good for ranking .
    I find many wordpress based sites rank very well , bcoz most of wordpress themes are html validation .
