I am designing a website actually and i dont know what kind of HTML i should use. May be i dont explain myself clear but i have the choice between those elements : Having an html page in : XHTML 1.0 Transitionnal ? or HTML 4.01 Transitionnal ? Whats the best and how they are used and for what purpose ! Does any of those 2 DTD are exclusively used for pictures or text ? or it is totally different ?! I really dont know Thanks for any explanation and/or tutorials websites Cheers !
I wouldn't recommend either. I actually think you should use HTML 4.01 Strict. A strict DTD is probably better than a transitional one because it will help you abandon some old and inefficient habits. I personally don't recommend XHTML at this time. Browsers don't really support it. The only way it currently works on sites is because they feed the browser information telling it the code is just regular HTML. So there are really no benefits. To a browser, it is nothing more than malformed HTML.
I agree. If you are considering a standard to follow, you probably have the intention of following that standard and making it validate. Part of the XHTML standard is it's mime type, which if set correctly will cause the page to not display correctly in IE.
Hummm..... thanks for the informations, really. Ok so i change the type of my html right away. Thanks!! Cheers!!
