I couldnt find the right header for this question so ill plant it here, the support on this site is unreal heres my question in windows xp you can use Xcopy to copy certain files from one directory to another. what im try to do with this computer is copy all the *.jpg *.jpeg *.bmp and *.gif files from C: to a folder on my desktop ..//desktop/newfolder first i was getting this error "The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect." then when i finally got it right i run into this issue because im not copying to another drive or external drive "Cannot perform a cyclic copy 0 files copied" is it at all possible to do what im attempting? to query C: from that dir and copy the files to ..//desktop/newfolder and omit the directory that its copying too so i dont get that error? the exact way to do it would be a great help please include the /s switch Misplaced photos on this computer and i need them back. I forget the names . thanks so much. if it cannot be done, why?
Get Total Commander , go in the directory where you want to start a search for files. For example, if you want to find all pictures in C:\Windows and folders below, go to C:\Windows. Press Alt+F7 or go to Commands menu and select Search. in the Search for: textbox type the files types you wish, for example *.jpg;*.bmp (separate file masks with Start search and when done, click on the button Feed to listbox. Go in the other tab, go to the folder where you wish to copy the files , go back in the first tab, select all files with * or using the mouse , shift or ctrl and copy them to the folder.
