Thought I was going to be one of the luck ones, nope. I had it pretty much since the release date of the Xbox 360. Just got the 3 lights of death a few days ago. Right when I get my two favorite games: Call of Duty 4 and Halo 3. Both games are awesome, now I'm screwed! Have to waite like 3-6 weeks. Knowing microsoft, prolly 6-9 weeks. Everyone I've talked to has had this happened to them. Whatever part it is, I hope Microsoft has improved. I actually thought about just picking up a 2nd one for a backup.
With 360 it's guaranteed at some point, it's a joke really. I'd advise you forget the 360 and pick up a Playstation 3 - much better console. Not to mention that all the great games are starting to come out, 360 is no longer in the lead. They can also be picked up for around the same price as a 360 too now!
I know the feeling, my 360 went down in a blaze of glory at the start of this year. But if it helps, the replacement unit they sent out to me works much better. Haven't had a problem with it since.
Huh? How can PS3 be so much better? I thought about getting one, but seriously... First of all you're not going to be able to tell the difference in graphics. It's all about the selection and how fun games are. The Wii made that evident!!!! And you said this I've been waiting a whole year, haven't seen shit!!! They don't even have a server like xbox live that offers downloadable demos, movies, etc... If you ask me PS3 is in the dumps, out of all my friends not one has a PS3. Yeah, I hearit's big over in Japan, but that could change. If they improve I will get one, only thing bad about the Xbox right now is that it fails within 1-2 years. It has a 3 year warranty. I'm just dissapointed with the PS3, the console has a lot of potential but nothing has got it going yet. Even the guy at Gamestop said they don't have much when I asked him.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! ooooh! I needed a good laugh.... Don't worry Icedout, I only waited 2 weeks for my replacement.
No difference in graphics? I've been playing the Uncharted DEMO since yesterday, and the graphics are just WOW! There is nothing on the 360 to compare it to.. oh, and take a look at Ratchet & Clank, another great example. Don't forget Killzone 2. PS3's graphical capabilitys are superiror to the 360 - it's just down to the developer to utilise this. Don't have a server? The PSN (Playstation Network) is 100% free unlike 'LIVE' and it infact DOES have downloadable demos, trailers, games etc etc... You are very misinformed there. Infact PSN online when gaming lags LESS than live, and it's free! Crazy, no? Not to mention, PSN games are on servers (hence no lag) which SHOULD cost money. LIVE is just P2P, and so costs Microsoft nothing for your gaming, yet they charge you a whack each year for it! Again, to be honest it's not very 'big in Japan', it's ahead of the 360 yes but it's thriving much more in Europe and upcoming in the US. If they don't have many PS3's, that's because they've sold them! lol - PS3 sales have shot up tremenously in recent months due to the price drops and games. Obviously you've never played on a PS3, and until you do (specifically Uncharted) don't knock it, because trust me, you're very mis informed. The 360's library of game's is better than PS3 at this moment, purely because it's been out for over a year (2?) longer - but even so the library mainly consists of FPS games, the 360 caters for a smaller audience and will continue to do so by the looks of it, it's not a casual gamer console and because of this won't win in the end. The ONLY thing stopping PS3 is/was the price, now that it's dropping here and there - don't expect people to hold off.
I usually don't care about these PS3 vs Xbox360 debates, because I really don't care who wins.... BUT! what you said shows you how misinformed YOU are... Depends on the game! Whether or not a game has it's own server(s) is up to the developer. Let me refer to some recent games. Team Fortress 2 is P2P (Valve's fault). Call of Duty 4 has it's own servers (thanks Infinity Ward!), Halo3 of course has its own servers, Microsoft owns Halo. EA has their own servers, thank god. In fact, of all the games I've played online, only Team Fortress 2 has been P2P. Hello!!?? Xbox Live Arcade, heard of it? There are plenty of Xbox360 users who just play on Xbox Live Arcade (pretty silly when you think about how much power is being wasted). Sony is very closed about PS3, and didn't release more info about the Cell processors, and because of that Linux on the PS3 sucks, and it's all Sony's fault. Sony is STILL making PS2s..... WHY?? Isn't that a little weird, I mean, if they totally believed in the PS3 then they would be pushing for the PS3 only. By the way, if you or I make a game for Xbox Live Arcade, Microsoft has a general attitude of accepting them, unlike Sony, Microsoft is very developer friendly (and I'm planning to make a game for Xbox Live Arcade someday.... someday). Ok, end of my rant. It doesn't matter who wins, as long as we're having fun playing our games, because by the time one console starts to win, another will show up and another and another, and we waste our money on the next system and the next. I just wanna play some games, why do the companies keep screwing us, I'm sick of it.... have a nice day
Fanboy fight! Fanboy fight!!! Aight ease up fellas, each console offers something different. Personally I would (and did) choose 360 over PS3 for being more reasonably priced and a large selection of games, but PS3 also offers Blu-Ray support and, let's be honest it has the Sony name on it. They've led the fight for the last couple generations, it'll be interesting to see if they will be standing on top this time too. Back to the topic at hand, when you get your 360 back let us know if it's as noisy too because I have had a few friends say their replacement ran quieter too. That wasn't the case here.
I don't own any next gen console, but I've got to say that looking in from the outside it looks like it's currently a race between Wii and XBox360. Sony has been using the "just be patient" approach because they have yet to release a game that people can get excited about. Rachet and Clank? Sure, the graphics are great, but you've got to have a game that appeals to the college-age, multiplayer crowd. I have never once heard anyone over the age of 16 get excited about Rachet and Clank, for the same reason that we do not attend Pixar movies. Wii has done a great job of pulling in some young adults despite very few adult-targeted games, but that's mostly thanks to the innovative controller. They also will lose some of the potential Guitar Hero crowd thanks to Activision screwing up GH3 on Wii by not including stereo sound (inexcusable for a music-based game). With the holiday shopping season nearly upon us, that could actually translate to tens of thousands of lost console sales for Nintendo.
That sucks! It's sad, but I guess sooner or later this happens to everyone, really. Mine hasn't yet, I'm sure the day before Mass Effect comes out it will...can't wait for that. I already got 4 red lights, but that went away. I have no idea what's the difference between 3 and 4 red lights, but I know 3 red lights means it's over... I think it's just sad, honestly. No other system was ever this bad before. Microsoft has to be losing a ton of money fixing all these systems...It happens to everyone, it's just accepted now. IGN's Xbox 360 weekly podcast is called "3 Red Lights" and they give a moment of silence for all the dead Xbox 360's each week, makes me laugh everytime.
I've had mine for awhile now, while I haven't got the red ring of death my 360 is being a nit on starting games up. Seems the disc has to be in 100% perfect condition for the disc to be read and even then it takes a few tries. Prolly just gotta get some compressed air or something and spray it down who knows.
My boyfriend had the same issue and sent it in to be fixed. All total it took about 3 or so weeks to get it back, not as long as we thought it would. I don't think I will have the same issue with my 360 because I waited a couple of month after it came out to buy mine and it has some totally different features than my boyfriend's does (the power cord and brick were different, etc.). I wouldn't worry too much about it. Send it in right away. When we finally got ours back it was a totally brand new 360!!!
Yeah, I sent it in as fast as I can. I hope I get it back soon! Not much to do during the week but be a webmaster and play video games
