http://www.whattastesgood.com/ I added some color to the pages. There are some issues with some of the database data so I think I'm going to have to rebuild it, but other than that I'm happy with the way it looks. Just need that logo.
i believe you have too much empty sapce.. i suggest you maximize the page.. use some graphics, pics, thumbs, etc..
I don't think the purpose of the site is clear. Some language about how I can benefit if I click on the links would be helpful. As it is, it looks like just a bunch of links to states.
I only know that it has something to do with food from it's domain name. But like mhdoc said, it is unclear why you would just throw links on the pages. A significant amount of text is needed. If not it would more likely to be one of those sites that promote spam ( or spasm ) Good luck mate!
No offense, but it looks like it was designed by a programmer Also there is no link back to the home page (unless your plan is to make the logo link back).... although this might not be a bad thing as I almost clicked on the top banner thinking it would take me to the home page. Also from a usability stand point you might want to give users the option to select how many results per page. And instead of just previous and next maybe put some page number links. Oh and being able to flip between pages at both the top and the bottom is a good thing. But if you are serious about this site the first thing I would do is work on the design.
Definately needs a design tune-up.. I didn't really know what I was doing on the site as it's not really clear what the site is for..
I agree with the others...this is a really bland site design. When you have a food related website a good rule of thumb is to think of the design as something delicious. You want to get people interested in dining/eating, so you need to give them something appetizing to look at. For example, use colors that are connected to fresh foods like fruits or vegetables. You can even use restaurant menus as inspiration.
You are all correct that this was in fact designed by a programmer. In fact though, it wasn't event designed. All I did was set a few background colors on some table cells. I have someone working on a logo and layout separately. As for some description text, that is a good idea. I believe I will place it above to state links. As for the remaining empty space, that is mainly because I would like to fill that up with more ads. (adsense, and more affiliate links) and if all goes well the main money generation will be from restuarants themselves paying for premium search listings. ie buying any search of a state or certain zip codes
Still getting error 404's when clicking around after a search. Example: Select "African" in the drop down. Click Search. On the page with only two results, Click "Next" Error 404 Not beating you up, just if I had errors I would want people to tell me. hth, tom
I have some spare time and if you need help I'll be willing to create a simple layout for you. Just let me now by PM.
Granted the design needs some designing, and the purpose of the site needs to be considered in the design process, in the meantime while it is being built there should be some placeholders. I clicked on a state and received an error. I tried to go back but it wouldn't. I may have broken your site jk. This is the error I received: Parse error: parse error, unexpected ';' in /home/whattast/public_html/search.php on line 207 So while you're waiting for the new interface and some content for the links, you should consider putting in some kind of landing page for the time being.
