www vs www2 SEO Concern

    Hey there,

    I just saw some websites have www2.domainName.com as well as www.domainName.com.

    What is going on here? I have never heard of www2. Could somebody elaborate on this?

    1. What is www2 exactly?

    2. Could somebody register your domain name under this? For example, could somebody get www2.google.com? My assumption is no, but I am going to ask nonetheless.

    3. How does www2 effect SEO compared to www?

    Its just a Web 2 gimmick. It does not benefit SEO. It actually goes against you.

    www2 is just a subdomain..

    I remember using this one.. when I signing up for free hosting.. I use www2 as my subdomain.. then it looks like this www2.yourfreehosting. c o m
