Dear all, Two days ago I had two working versions of my website - "with www" and "non www" versions. I am talksing about www.conference.ge website, a forum. Both of the versions - www.conference.ge and conference.ge were working. So, As I found out that this is not good from the SEO purposes and I decided to leave one of them - www.conference.ge. What to do with the other version - conference.ge? 1) 301 redirect with .htaccess file 2) Change on the server. As I know the first one is the best and ask the IT people at my hosting provide to do that. I do not know what they did, but I see this: www.conference.ge is working as usual, but when I type "conference.ge" in IE6, it redirects me to MSN live search ... can someone more experienced than me explain it is good or bad [I mean that is happening to "conference.ge"]?
www and non www version should go to http://www.yoursite.com You will get the link juice benefit in you do a 301 redirection. Moreover, if 2 versions exist, there is a possibility of one version getting into supllemental results. If you are using google sitemap (webmasters tools) then you can also check the display preference i.e. whether u want a www or non www version for conference.ge, 301 redirect it to http://www.conference.ge
thank you ... for time and advice ... Unfortunately I can not do it myself, I think Apache is not properly set up on the server. The server ITs had done something wrong so, if conference.ge goes to live search, that is not 301 redirect?
Now, How do you think, is this situation is better than it was before? Is it better not to have conference.ge version, than to have the one without 301 redirect?
