my site was just listed at aviva and alive without the www. does this matter? yahoo site explorer shows different links for each configuration, and so the page rank checker?
You should do a 301 redirect (domain.com to www.domain.com). Search engine consider domain with and w/o www as different domains. Here is an article on how to do it. Thanks, Princy
someone please enlighten me about this topic. 1. what is preferable with or without in general? 2. What is the best for SEO for posting links? 3. should i redirect xxx.com to www.xxx.com or vice versa? 4. How will the 301 redirect affect SEO links from directories? thanks
1. I am not really sure. To me, its more of a personal preference. 2. I have seen sites with/without "www" with high PR and superb SE ranking. 3. I am doing from domain.com to www.domain.com at my BWD 4. I think you can ask the directory owners to update your URL if you decided to go with "www.domain.com" version and u currently have listings for "domain.com"
You need to set it up to go to one or the other like everyone else said. For example, my directory is setup WITHOUT the www. Even if someone links to the www it'll foward to yooley without it.
so your suggestion is to pick one and route all traffic there? will it have any negative impact if I just leave it and it is one way somewhere and another somewhere else?
dang, i tried editing htaccess, but it just shows an error on crowntutoring.com instead of forwarding. ok, more news, i tried this code of a webpage: Options +FollowSymlinks RewriteEngine on rewritecond %{http_host} ^crowntutoring.com [nc] rewriterule ^(.*)$ http://www.crowntutoring.com/$1 [r=301,nc] and in firefox, the crowntutoring.com refers to www.crowntutoring.com/public_html and it gives the error. why does it go to public_html?
AHHHHHHHHHHHHH ! listen up, I was accesing the wrong htaccess file, there are two of them on my server. when I modified the one in public_html problem was fixed, check it
At the end of the day its all about consistancy... make a decision and stick with either with or without. Personally i think with the www works better, especially with .com domains as people oftern use keyboard shortcuts to access .com domains (ie ctrl + enter) although obviously a redirect (as mentioned) would over come that issue.
All the above 3 links shows something different.. From http://www.searchbuster.org/forum/google/56-canonical-urls-page-ranking-consolidation.html#post153 From http://www.directory-owners.com/res...omain-name-htaccess-every-time.html#post15616 From http://www.allshort.com/news/301-search-engine-friendly-redirect-n11.html Can anybody guide the correct format ?
1. what is preferable with or without in general? = it's upto you whatever u choose, u may set your preference in google webmaster tools as well. 2. What is the best for SEO for posting links? = choose one as a standard (www or without www doesn't matter IMO) 3. should i redirect xxx.com to www.xxx.com or vice versa? (make an standard and than you may redirect too, so the link pointing www or without www also counts) 4. How will the 301 redirect affect SEO links from directories? (IMO, they are good way to move) thanks
