WWW or non WWW? Which is better?

    Hi all,

I have been developing my new site. I bought the domain already.

But now I am stuck. I can't decide which is better. WWW or non WWW?

(My site is NOT a blog, it is a general website that is top secret :) )

So which is better and why?

    Waiting for those valuable replies.

    Thanks in advance.

    Best Regards,
    Akos

Well due to the fact we are in the 21st century, there really is no need for the www. anymore. It was mainly used when the web was on a local country or state basis at its toddler years :p.

The only thing I can advise on is be careful on what you place in a ssl cert. if it applies. If a certificate is created for www.yourdomain.com and the viewer is on only yourdomain.com, that will cause certificate warnings which could cost you business!

if you use offline advertising modes, i think its better to use www always. Coz most of non technical people know its a website URL...

I personally prefer www too. It is easier to be understood by a common user and also CTRL + ENTER which I am habitual to use, opens a www page only :D

I would suggest a WWW... It is very to have a WWW in SEO. Eventhough we are in the 21st century, the basic www still rocks. It is the basic part of a domain.

Point www as a cname to the "none www" host. Make one or the other a server alias in your apache config and use a redirect to make it consistent.

Personally I don't like using www, but as previously posted it would be good to setup a cname for it.

Remember thou, dont have both www and non-www this will cause google to treat it as duplicate content. If you end up with a non-www domain showing the same as www content then make sure you do a 301 redirect and nothing else.

www is antiquated. Look at advertising nowadays and they frequently leave it off, too. If you look at your server paths, www points to the main directory and contains the same files. No one I know uses www anymore and haven't for years. It's totally unnecessary.
