there seems to be a buzz as google treats the www.mydomain.com and mydomain.com differently. many people redirect there domains to non www domains whereas others tend to redirect it to www.mydomain.com ...

I hope you understand what I wanted to say...

what are your suggestions on this.

Should we be using www or not? Where are you redirecting your domain? to the non www or to the www option??

mine in www.nofullstop.com and I redirect it to the complete www.nofullstop.com

According to my knowledge, www is just a subdomain like any other like..

    mysite.domain.com and
    www.domain.com

but whenever you type domain.com, the www. is implicit and understood.

However, if you want your site to appear as www.site.com in your address bar, then you will have to use your .htaccess file to rewrite your URLs Hope that helps :)

no what I wanted to ask was how many people prefer redirecting there URLs to complete www if in case people type in just domain.com because we have to understand that if someone links to the complete URL containing www and other links to domain.com its all together a different thing and both do not contribute to your PR

    I hope people know that??

Take a look at your backlinks and see how sites have already linked to you. 301 the other version.

lots of new web 2.0-ish sites are going no "www" but I still prefer the "www" - it doesn't matter really if you just stay consistent.

I'd suggest using the www and redirecting the other. Theoretically some companies could be using the non-www version to point at some services other than a web site, so it's a better standard to stick with the www version. Not that that happens often these days, since the web carries most companies only business, and a lot of people don't even seem to realise there is other stuff on the internet ;)

I strongly suspect that if both entries point to exactly the same page, most search engines are clever enough to realise they are in fact the same thing, however the redirect is done.

no difference SEO wise if thats what you are asking. If you are asking aesthetically which is better, I like www a little better.

Simply build all your links with the www version and 301 the non www to the www. You could do it the other way too- build all with non www and redirect the www to the non www.

    Just ensure consistency
