how do you guys think i should set this up? In my page about widgets, should it be www.mysite.com/widget/ (which loads index.html) or www.mysite.com/widget/widget.html Is the second way really that much better?
Here's a follow up question .... Is www.keyword.com really that much better than www.somethingelse.com/keyword/ ?
It depends on the word itself and the purpose of the site. Sometimes it is much better to have a different website and sometime not.
I know that... I mean if you're trying to Search Engine Optimize for the word "keyword", with everything else the same, which would the search engine list first? www.keyword.com or www.somethingelse.com/keyword/
Its impossible to say. There are too many external factors involved. All things being equal I expect keyword.com would be ranked higher.
I would recommend www.keyword.com from the two options, but why when you can have www.keyword.com/keyword
depends what it is and how you do it, I see no reason to not have a page www.webhosting.com/webhostingpackages.htm if you have the webhosting.com domain.
Having keywords in your URL is pretty good stuff. I've begun experimenting with this a few months ago, and I'm now a believer in keyword stuffing your domain, even if you have to use those hideous hyphens.
It will be better to use keyword.com, instead of a subdirectory. that way you work your SEO on your domain, instead of your directories
