there is NO such URL !!

the "forums" is instead of "www"
    = subdomain

    redirects are used to rewrite

    domain >> www . domain
    or
    www . domain >> domain

but usually never to redirect www . sub . domain to sub.comain

it is most unusual to redirect such EXTREME USER-errors
users are expected to know at least a tiny bit of www standards before searching a webmaster forum. MO

The best way is not to use it at all, but IwhiC has a point. Not everyone knows the drill about subdomains and www.

    Shut it.

I agree with hans, forums. is a sub domain and I don't think it is correct to use a www. prior on a sub domain.

if maybe possible I think dp will create a sub domain which is www.forums

    while sub.fodlers to . sub . domains
    are used

!! there is NO such URL !! @ digitalpoint and that was the OP
and a webmaster really should know that !

yahoo is a different story as shown in a reply - here its about DP forum and NOT about ANY site / any URL

all world can possibly use yahoo including total newbies or kids and all world is making millions of mistakes daily - thus a billion $ company may have the tech and $ resources needed to compensate for all such human errors

from a "normal" pro-oriented website focusing at site owners / publishers there is no need to invest the additional millions of $ in error compensating scripting/reqriting

I am not her to start a debate, I am just saying it can be done, and not everyone on this forum knows that you do not need the www. nor is every one a webmaster. it takes little to no effort to set it up so that your traffic gets redirected.. so you do not get a page not found, or any other errors, like 404's.

    everything can be done
and every wish has a price - so does lack of knowledge as well have a price

every redirect / rewrite costs ADDITIONAL resources
and if you look at DP forum donation request then you know that DP forum ran OUT of resources due to lack of $ long time ago - else there would be NO such donation request!

if you look at the HW and other resources already used and add another 5 or 10% for additional error compensation - then you see that the REAL services and useful stuff would have to be reduced or more money be donated.

if you have millions of requests then such redirects / rewrites add substantially to resource consumption.

Did you know search engines will crawl those dynamic subdomains. And create dupe content.
