WTS: PR4 Security Directory with traffic and Sitewide Link Selling Mod

Discussion in 'Sites' started by JagoHarry, May 29, 2007.

I've discovered that it's now time to prune my network of sites to a number that's more manageable. So here are the first of my sites that I am selling.

    URL: http://www.spyonme.co.uk
Site type: A free and paid web directory focussed on the security niche.
Domain Registration: From 2006-01-26 until 2008-01-26
    Domain Registrar: 123-reg.co.uk, free push.

Script: phpLD V2.1.0 (free version) with Sponsored Ads Mod, and PR Update Tool Mod installed. Sponsored Ads Mod allows easy selling and management of sitewide links. PR Update Tool Mod (written by me) allows the links PR value to be updated from the admin section. As far as the wording on the site goes, you do not need to pay for the installed link forever Sponsored Ads Mod unless you want an upgrade.

    Site Information (via iWebTool.com)
Page Rank: 4 (with many PR1, PR2 internals).
    Backlinks: 464
    Listings on Google: 86
    Listings on MSN Search: 200
    Listings on Yahoo Search: 99

Traffic: 12 uniques a day on average

    Traffic Source:
    56.87% Direct Traffic
    32.70% Referring Sites
    10.43% Search Engines

    Revenue:
    - $15 from a single sponsored link.
    - Not monetised with adsense, but should bring in some income.

    Potential:
I suggest selling sitewide links, which can easily be sold at $5 per month. For 10 links, this equates to $50 a month, $500 in 10 months. Target any type of technology and gadget site for this. The linkforever.net script for sponsored links has already been installed, so this is ready to be used.

I suggest that the directory stays free for normal links and paid for featured links. You might want to add security related articles to each of the categories to give the search engines more content. In doing so, you could also sell links using keywords in the articles.

    Limitations of Template:
I designed the template, so I need the link to Spy Review to remain. The link to the JagoNetwork can be removed. The footer links that need to remain are as follows:

    Conclusion:
Security directories are quite rare, so with some good promotion in the right areas (i.e. security blogs, etc), you could easily drive more visitors and advertisers to the directory. The domain name is very catchy and easy to remember too. I only wish I had the time to develop this further.

From a link seller's perspective, a solid PR4 site can easily be exploited to earn revenue. The sitewide link selling script makes this trivial for the new owner.

    Pricing Info:
    Starting price: $150 USD
    Bid Increments: $10
    BIN: Will set later.

Revenue potential is $500 in 10 months (conservative estimate), so this should guide the bid price above.

Auction close: about 3 days after first bid. I'll specify a closing date after the first bid.

    Good question!

According to the information on 123-reg, the internal transfer between 123-reg accounts is free (i.e the free push). It appears by switching accounts and then updating nominet data, this is free. The information on 123-reg implies that a transfer includes a change of ownership.

    Thanks
    Dan

I think you would do well to check that more thoroughy, Nominet is the Registry and sets the terms of transfer, (check the links provided). 123-reg as the Registrar cannot over-ride Nominet and if a .uk domain is 'pushed' the receiver does not become the "Legal Registrant".
I am interested in the site but I could not entertain a purchase which did not provide me with full "Legal Registrant" status on the domain.
However I will not post further on the matter.

I have made enquries with 123-reg and nominet directly. I need to fully understand what's required for a transfer. I am awaiting replies from both.

Based on the information that I have found, it appears that nominet does need to get involved:
    http://www.hey.co.uk/domains/domain-services/.uk_domain_name_transfer_guide.html

I won't commit to covering a fee until I hear from either of 123-reg or nominet. However, if the fee is simply £10 + VAT, then I will cover that fee as part of the auction (and make the new owner the legal owner).

Thanks for bring this to my attention.

I have clarified the situation. I will cover the cost of the £10 + VAT fee to legally transfer the domain to the new owner.

Due to a lack of interest, this auction is now closed.
