Hi,

I deleted the index.php file for my site that was running a version of wordpress from october 2010. I need help restoring the site to its previous condition with the index.php file in tact.

The index file on root directory?

You can always upgrade to fix the issue, otherwise download the file for your version of install from http://wordpress.org/download/release-archive/

Let me know if you need any help.

 

Download the .zip package of WP and unzip it.
Then using your FTP client upload the missing index file(s).

 

So, has this been resolved yet? Have you tried g_bot and john.morison's recommendations?

 

Everything in Wordpress is stored in the SQL database
You can delete your directory and restore Wordpress without any problems (except if you have a custom theme / post install plugins)
The content will be in the SQL database, safe from being deleted.
