Monthly charge would eventually depend on the number of hours and the level of flexibility of the schedule. Are you looking for someone who would be available via instant messaging "whenever needed" or will communication by email do as well? These details do matter.

I require daily correspondence...the job is for one project, so its not 'as needed' availability but daily dialogue and progress is important

I would expect the individual to work EXCLUSIVELY for one entire month....no working on other projects

so "availability" is not an issue unless you are trying to juggle me and someone else

I expect a full days work, every day, 5-6 days aweek as I am not paying you to work on someone elses project (or to not work)

you will be working on MY server, so I can see in the file timestamps whether you are working or not :)

BusinessCoach, I need to warn you...

With that kind of "EXCLUSIVE" work, also with strong communication skills.

If you want a professional working on this project, be ready to fork out at least $4,000.

And with a project that size with that much of money, most developers should be seeking to get the money wired instead of working with paypal.

12 hours a day I can do this but you would have to pay at lest $4500 a Month.

how silly, I can hire someone in house for half the price of what you suggest.

Strong communication skills, and regular communication are two differenthings.

I just need someone who doesn't disappear...reliability is not worth anything...its EXPECTED.

and a project of "what" size? you are clueless to the project or its magnitude

anyone asking for wages equivelant to an in house position in the usa should go apply for a job.

If you are in india, don't ask for 1500 a month (60,000 INR) I am not going to pay a years salary to someone for a month of work

You shouldn't pay based on the location of someone, but the quality of their code.

If you take that attitude then you're going to end up with some crappy code. Your choice, though.

I pay based on quality and location..has worked so far

only an idiot pays a man a weeks wages for an hours work done on a beginner or intermediate level

this is not masters degree, ph.d expert level coding we are talking about

    but simple LAMP work.

    $1USD =~ 40INR

now why on earth would i pay $35 USD an hour when there are many who ARE JUST AS CAPABLE and will do it for $5?

    not to mention the fact

QUALITY OF CODE is just one issue

I have rarely seen high quality code come from india
add to that its hard to communicate because English is not their native language and their time zone is flip-flop from mine

and lastly there is little ingenuity...if I don't explicitly say "there needs to be a logoff button" they won't put one there

    ...hardly worth US wages

    quality of code indeed

This is exactly why "You Get What You Pay For"! Why don't you just say that you're looking to hire some PHP Programmer from India at a going rate of $5/hour...

I too agree with crazyryan, it's not where you live... it's how good you are at your work... What makes you think that indian programmers don't get paid $40/hour?

It's true, developing PHP web applications doesn't require a "Masters Degree" or a PHD... but why don't you give it a shot at building your own "Basic Portal"... i can guarantee you that it will take you several months if not years to develop this application...

I did not want to flame you but your last post was both discriminative and racist...
Please be careful with your statements as this will show your lack of professionalism. I am no longer interested in this role and I apologize if I have offended anyone on this thread.

This will be my last post on this thread.
    Kind Regards,
    Vahsi000

    You DO want to flame

and thats exactly what you did

but thats an example of people who live contradictory lives

be with crazyman, and go somewhere else

i don't care about your little programmer egos.

I try to stay away from india, usually because its poor quality, and they have such attitudes.

I'm they guy they are working for, its my money, so yah I expect them to do what I ask the way I ask...if they don't like it...freelance for someone else

and programmers in india DO NOT get paid $40 an hour in india, at least not the php ones...lol...yes and that is a fact.

The reason people outsource is to SAVE MONEY

the reason they outsource to a lower economy is to SAVE MORE money.

try taking a basic economy class or two. Pay attention to currency, import/export and international business trade...you might see the light.

I don't expect a programmer to understand that

and I have built many portals, I am a project manager silly!

so i know exactly what it takes.

But me trying to explain to an employee why i am an employer is a long drawn out discussion in which I will be right and it will take you 2 years to realize it.

and that would only be IF YOU became an employer.

racist would be if i refused to hire indians, I do hire them, when they are professionals

I have actually had people from india work for me in house (making 500-2000 USD a week) for programing, but NOT PHP!

php is not a high-end language, and I am not fooled by it.

There are only 3 or 4 good php programs in existence on this planet that could ever be used on an enterprise level, and they all had tons of guys working on it for many years.

give me ruby, .net or java any day. hell even cold fusion out performs php.

but php itself is simple to self teach, and so coders are a dime a dozen.

sadly for that same reason, php coders are unreliable.

all you have to do is look at how many people on DP need something done, how long it takes to find a NEW guy.

because PHP coders, all over the world have attitudes...as if they are elite, and the world OWES them

I pay people livable wages...just like when I hire people in the UK...i have to pay them TWICE what I would pay an american coder....because of currency exchange

I don't expect you to understand smart business....in fact, I expect you to attack it

but thats why i am always the guy hiring people like you

get it. I hire, you look to be hired.

still don't get it huh? that's ok, hopefully one day you will.

For those that think I am "racist" when I say I prefer not to deal with India

here is a GOOD EXAMPLE WHY

FROM INDIA I have gotten no less than 20 Private messages

and another 20 Instant messages (different people) who want this job

Each one starts out the same way

Person from india: I am interested in the job

then they say: Can you give me details please?

I respond, do you have what i requested?

They say: Can you give me the specifics of the job

After the 5th time i just told them I wasn't interested, but the first few times I said "do you have sample links"

They give me a link to THEIR WEBSITE!

Now here are some things here

    1) I specifically stated what the project entailed:

    2) I specifically stated NOT to private message me, yet my box is full (all from india) of people asking me (for details)

    3) I specifically told 2 things to have ready when they IM me

after telling them I was not interested, it takes 5 minutes of them saying

WAIT, please sir look at our workings, you will be pleased.

I say I am not interested, they persist telling me

    You will liking our work!

The reason I am not interested is because they couldnt follow simple directions in this post

    If you

    1) cannot understand English enough
    2) are too lazy to read the description

then WHY ON EARTH would I pay you 1500+ a month to work for me?????

I would go through that nonsense every day (and I have spent no less than 30,000 with indian programmers over the years)

It is too much of a headache unless the price is dirt cheap.

I will never pay full US salary to someone in india, because its a waste of my time and money...you don't have to like it or agree

    ITS MY MONEY!

I agree at this point of yours.

I have never met a PHP coder in the places i have worked[does not mean there are no such coders alive, though they are a rare breed], who can even write a simple Contact Form with validations, error-warnings from scratch without Googling.

Me being a front-end coder, i was so fed up with so called PHP developers who cannot even write correct HTML, i refused to close any more unclosed DIVs by those idiots & now i am on my own, happy with the lil but clean HTML i produce, until i learn proper PHP :)

lol, php is for freelancers...PERIOD...they don't COMMAND top wages...ever

can anyone show me some listings of major companies looking to hire someone who does PHP and offering a salary above 30k

monster? careerbuilder? any of the major job sites? why aren't companies paying 60-150k for a php coder?

becauause they are not worth it!

Go to any freelance board, look at how many people say

"this is my 3rd time posting this"

    "my last provider disappeared"

"the previous coder couldnt finish the job"

if you find that offensive...GOOD...learn an enterprise level language or in the least in PHP

    --comment your code
    --error check
    --use some best practices
    --FINISH A JOB
--communicate with your employer on a regular basis
--STOP making excuses for being LAZY

then MAYBE you get more respect, but 95% of php coders are self taught, and taught themselves poorly

php coders have a bad name...and ones from india have a worse one.

Don't be mad at me...do a better job, and people will have a different opinion.

    etc etc etc

Best wishes for the New Year, BusinessCoach!

Unfortunately for you, putting all in the same boat would not lead to finding a reliable canditate for your position. Judge every single coder for his own work. Don't judge me for what you see on freelance boards, and don't judge them for what I do. Then you'll be good.

well, this thread have turned into a somewhat amusing discussion, BusinessCoach indeed have some fine points, and most of he said are true, but i say generalizing is a bit going overboard, but anyways, everyone's opinion matters and if that's his, so be it.

all i can go by is my experience of the last 11 years of dealing with PHP coders both inhouse and out

and lets see....well they all pretty much end up to be the same

with the exception of a few superstars.....the ones who had degrees in computer science/engineering and php was just one of a MINIMUM of 4 languages they knew.

SO it was they picked up php cuz they could. and excelled in it. But they were superstars outside php

the problem is the people who learn php and think that makes them a superstar (it doesnt)

if that is NOT you...congratulations, because you are 1 in a million...literally.

you also should be very rich, and have more work than you could handle every single day

you should be duplicating yourself and teaching others to do what you do, and taking over the php business in all the world.

it's wouldnt be hard to do, if the stupid language could actually handle enterprise level work without using 10x the manpower of other languages.
