Way I see it is, if you are providing the best most relevant search result to what it most likely in the mind of the surfer making the search query Google local will be just like any other Google result.

Google are striving (better than most) to help provide us all with the best search results they can, as after all that's what we all want, so like all the other search engines it is in their best interests to do so.

I would suggest that perhaps you ought to consider a good SEO, no matter their experience with Google local or not!
