[WTH] Experienced WordPress Coder? Love WordPress?

Do you love WordPress and the WordPress community, and would like to give a little back?

Are you trying to make a name for yourself as a competent WordPress coder?

If so, then I'm interested in talking to you!

If you were following WordPress a few years ago, it was loved because everything was free: including high quality themes.

Nowadays, the only decent themes being released are at a price. The vast majority of freebies are junk, and uninspiring.

This is a sad way to repay the WordPress community, imo.

But, I want to change that.

It's not that I have a problem with premium themes. Not at all. I'd just like to promote and encourage what used to be such a vibrant part of the WordPress community.

I am thinking about launching a free WordPress themes community, which provides truly beautiful WordPress themes, in the vein of how it used to be.

They'll be unique, simple, and highly appealing themes; largely designed by myself (some previous work)

    However, I need help.

I need a WordPress coder (or a few) who is willing, not necessarily to work for free (although that would be great) but to reduce their rates for this project.

    In return you get,

    1. A link in the footer of any theme you code.
    2. Further recongition as a capable WordPress coder.
    3. Listed on the site as one who people should contact for paid customizations.

The expenses of this community will come out of my own pocket. We all love Open Source, and free communities, and this is exactly what this will be. No hidden costs, or anything. At least one free, high quality theme/month for the community.

In time, I may even hire in well known designers (I will be encouraging talented people to get involved, though I doubt many would be interested in offering their skills for free) to contribute.

Like I said, I don't expect you to work for free. But, this project will not be sustainable for me if I'm paying out $xxx on coders, hosting, site management, and my time.

Also, there won't be the same time pressures as a normal paid job. Each theme will be free, and you'll probably get anything up to two weeks to code in your spare time.

Let me know if you're interested, and ask any questions you wish.

    Hey my friend!

Yeah, I sure do. I would have absolutely no problems working with you Matthew. You did an excellent job before.

The only problem is, as it's a non-paying project, you're a bit too expensive.

Willing to do some 'charity' work? I'd pay you, but I can't afford your usual prices.

In the long run, I will have other benefits to offer those who collaborate (I can share details via pm).

Yep, I understood from the post that they were not full-paying projects, more of a collaboration with the benefit of increased reputation (and ideally business through that)

Anyway we can have a chat and see what we come up with.

    Hey.

I'm really interested in helping you out. I do need the money though, but I will work at very reduced rates... just name the price! Please PM me how much you're looking to get each theme done for and possibly your MSN or AIM contact information, so we can talk further.

    Thanks.

I'm having problems replying to PM's on DP. Not sure why this is. Messages just won't send.

    Odd.

Anyway, I've got some capable coders on board. I might use what I've got now, and launch the project.
