Is the pay unethical because it takes away work from higher priced people namely in the US or is unethical because there is something wrong with it?

Let me tell you, we staffed a technology team in the United States, costing us over $50k a month in expenses. When it came down to it, we got the same if not higher quality of work internationally for 75% less than that.

It wasn't only about the money, the people internationally appreciated the opportunity and fought for it, whereas the people we paid locally couldn't find more ways to take advantage. We had to staff them, pay health insurance and deal with issues. Today when we need a position, we just post an opening and have 30 people competing for the job.

For us, it's about quality but price is a big issue and not the direct cost but the indirect cost. I don't personally buy into the "taking jobs from American's argument" simply because there are too many things that can be done locally which I think will never be replaced but until the level of work gets to a calibur to make that argument work, more and more developers are going to find jobs sourced internationally.

Thanks all for the warm welcome. We are trying to build the next tier 1 forum, only 99% of the way to go ;)

Sorry, I just don't see a guy putting food on his table as unethical. We know have a global economy (especially when it comes to these types of services). If anything it helps keep inflation in check in those countries where prices have grown at unsustainable rates.

It would be nice to say that $5.00 /hour in unethical but that's somewhat small minded as that is more than 90% of the worlds population makes.

    Must be nice being you.

Stop relying on the west to make your money first of all. Secondly I know many site owners complain of the quality of work from many paid posters. Lack of quality writing skills, english speaking skills and the infamous copy and paste job.

I know when I ran adhocpost and forum paid posting I had many problems from non english speaking people who had copy and pasted/plagerised. I had to fire them( they couldnt understand why copy and past was unethical).

Regardless of how much people pay. The work should never be in bad taste, sub par or copy and pasted.
