according to my latest experiences, this is not accurate.
My websites were still penalized without being in any of the above categories.

Hey guys finally today I found what was the problem. The Google has officially announce that the Caffeine is live now in all Data centers of Google. According to /searchengineland.com "Caffeine is a revamp of Google’s indexing infrastructure." so it is not an update of Google ranking algorithm and will not effect the ranking. It will effect only how the site will index. The blow URL has detail about this update.

    http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2010/06/our-new-search-index-caffeine.html
    http://searchengineland.com/googles-new-indexing-infrastructure-caffeine-now-live-43891

I think the ranking change is not permanent and It could be due to to the implementation of this update.

It could be due to this change or a separate algorithm update. Can we exchange the sites and keywords which are affected and the link building strategies that we are following. It will help us in identifying the problem.

With Facebook becoming the most visited site in the world, will you still want to put all your work into Google ?

Nice article and all but it is entirely worthless to an affiliate marketer. I fail to see how an ebay affiliate site about used carburetors or model trains is going to get listed on CNBC, make it to the radio, or national TV. It's unrealistic and the bottom line is that our home businesses rely a good 90% on SEO. If you're pulling in big bucks as an affiliate marketer solely through social networking, then you can consider yourself a social networking genius because that is an awfully unique thing to be doing.

The guy doesn't even have a sig link and people are trying to call him out on nonsense. There is no reason for him to make this story up. Now, I haven't noticed major changes on our websites, but with the latest PR update and Caffeine perhaps they changed some formulas in the secret sauce algorithm. Only thing I would suggest is to diversify your link building, as we know Bing/Yahoo and social media combined are still a very distant 2nd when it comes to consistent, reliable traffic sources.

It does make sense ... but could you please tell us where you read it? Thanks.

No, Caffeine is not about PageRank nor has it anything to do with a change in rankings, Google says. If you read the threads referenced above, you will see Caffeine is apparently unrelated.

Having said that, it is POSSIBLE, that it is related to Caffeine and the bugs are not worked out yet ... there was a long delay in implementing Caffeine. But the purpose of Caffeine was unrelated to ranking factors.

Hehehehehe, very funny, and I see your point. But I am still not using Facebook for search. However, your point is taken; we should be interested in Yahoo or Bing results, as well. And certainly Facebook is an important marketing tool!

They say they haven't changed the secret sauce ... but I do believe Caffeine means the sauce can be changed more easily ... and will be.
Sound advice on link building, though.

Each of the past four years my site's traffic has dropped as we entered the summer months. It may be a seasonal thing if your traffic is dropping some right now.

Doesnt look like a seasonal issue, people lose their rankings and therefor get less and like myself less quality. More hits with bounce. Great job G

I am seeing a drop in traffic of one of my site from a month.

Did anyone noticed this? Google is now giving preference to "Wordpress.com" free blogs in Google Images. I have seen some wordpress blogs whose traffic is increased a lot from past months.

Quite right Jim, the sun starts shining and people get outside away from their PCs. That means the only people left to visit our sites are pale and deficient in vitamin D :)

Not seen any major changes myself, just the normal dance.
