again today 10/2/2006 i don't know why I post here at dp about it but dreamhost has such bad tech support and forum that I probably have a better chance of getting help here. Can anyone recommend a good host for uptime and bandwidth provided while still at a good price?
My first 10 months at Site5 were great--but the last week was enough for me to give up on them. They just botched mail upgrades on a few servers which supposedly queued a half day's worth of mail, instead of sending it. Kept saying, "Few hours... no mail has been lost." That was followed by a bunch of server downtime. That was on the 27th. Still waiting for mail (just kidding... I'm not really expecting it to show up). They seemed to spend more time trying to keep unhappy customers from communicating with each other on the forum than they did keeping us up to date. They were all over the forums--but my last ticket on the subject took 15 hours to get a response. If they were more upfront and honest with the updates, I probably would have let it slide--since I know all shared hosts will have problems. I know people are at mad at DH right now, but their open communication is one of the main reasons I've had an account there since '02. Site5 was great when I signed up--and it was hard to find any complaints about them. Fast support response times, no problems at all. Recently, I noticed everyone at WHT complaining about them, but the server I was on was fine. Then, once the problems popped up, I got to see what everyone else was complaining about. Anyway, I'm not sure they're currently the best choice for a frustrated Dreamhoster. There are a lot of people complaining about downtime and censorship... so at least when DH goes down, they come clean and let their customers communicate. If Site5 gets back to the quality level they were at, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them again. But for now, I moved the sites there to Steadfast. They always have great feedback and Karl seems like a good guy on WHT--so I think it was a good move.
hmmm... so site5 is what you guys recommend? I think whatever host I move my arcade site to, will destroy there server, I use like 5,300 server time out of 24,000 whatever that means, is that to much for a shared host?
LOL, guess you are better with dedicated server. (I wouldn't want your site to be on same shared server as mine )
Yeah. But is 5,300/24,000 bad? That means I'm using 1/4 the server... How many people does DH throw on a server?
That depends on which guys you mean--the ones that said they liked it, or the ones that said they hated it. I certainly wouldn't recommend them right now--and you can't get a good read on what customers think from their forums, which are censored. But that's probably true for most hosts... I never saw one that allows the stuff that DH allows on their forums. It would vary depending on customer usage (probably in the hundreds in many cases)--but I doubt you're going to find a shared host that wants you using 1/4 of a shared server. I'd go with a dedicated, especially if you plan to grow from where you're at now.
I'd suggest Dreamhost they havent failed me yet. Just sometimes have a problem with one of their servers. Never the one I'm on . Look at my sig
