WTF!????!? Admins READ!

So Im googling crap about incentive sites. Ofcourse the term i searched for actually brought up one of my threads on here...

Now I scroll down about 3 listings and see this thread on some random ass forum. Both of them have the same title : Affiliate Progras/ Incentive Sites?

Someone is spoofing DP forum and somehow making mock copies of all of its threads with different usernames!!! wtf??

 

That's not "spoofing"

They're using RSS feeds, ie; http://forums.digitalpoint.com/external.php?type=RSS2&forumids=22

And they are free to do that. DP is providing those feeds to be used externally.

 

If you want an example of a content scraper, here's a REAL example!!!

Seems to me like if it was an RSS feed it would have to use the same member name as the original one who posted it, that's an exact copy of the question mxjoy posted and it is shown to be posted by Jason the admin of that other forum.

 

The RSS feeds only extract the thread title, post body, and URL...Not the username. When you set up an RSS feed importer in a vB forum, you assign it to a certain user in your own forum to have it posted under that username.

 

Well that's just downright dirty IMO...

 

Yeah, I think that it kind of is in this situation also...RSS feeds should really only be used for news, articles, etc...Not regular forum threads to populate your forum.

That said, DigitalPoint is providing that feed...If they didn't want people doing this, they could just turn off the feed. That would prevent everybody from using the feeds though, including those that are using them for good reasons.

If it was dirty and Shawn didn't want people using it, he wouldn't have the RSS feeds for us to use!! This is exactly what RSS is made for, Really Simple Syndication, aka...FREE CONTENT!!!!!! It wouldn't be hard at all to get rid of it.
