    Can anybody help explain how I would set a VPN up, if I were to start paying a monthly fee for one? I'm liking the concept, but need to know all the details.

    Quite straight forward. You sign up with a vpn provider. They provide you with the setup details on how to install opengui and put the secure certificate. You are set to go in minute. :)
