FOr enabling the subdomain structure with subdomains , i.e work like subdomain.domain.com , You should be able to change DNS entries., Are you having access to your DNS management of domain ?

 

You do know that wpmu out of the box is a lot less than wp.com. You have a lot of work ahead of you to get up to that level. Installing is just the first step.

Best bet would be to read the readme file included with the download. You need to contact your host and have them preform the two steps in there, wildcard dns and apache, for this to work. To be honest, no one can can do it for you since this is an account issue. You need to do it yourself.

To be honest though, if you're having problems with installing, you;re going to have a lot of problems down the road. If you want a site like wp.com, you need to be able to run a site like wp.com. You may want to give this a read:

If you don't mind an alternative solution, check out tmdhosting dot com - they offer a hosting package with wpmu install & config thrown in.

yes i have tried to install it myself from start to finish on my dedicated server but it was very difficult since im not a complete newbie and not a complete guru but i have learned a lot but this one had me spinning around and around since i put the first line in and it made my blog go to a 500 error instantly. i would be willing to try for you if you want to get an account on my server, or its your choice. good luck!
