It's just your imagination. DP is not Facebook which has millions of users. And it's not as big as Digg. DP is just an active forum with merely 117,727 registered members. That's it. I own many other active forums as well, maybe even bigger in terms of membership base.

Here's the point: if DP sells for $1,000,000 now. Will you buy it? Think twice first coz it's banned from adsense.

 

Revenue is not the only factor while selling a business. You are going a way in which only small sites can be sold.

Revenue potential , market reputation, user base, and potential income etc play a major role when big business are sold. DP forums is worth more than 5 million USD if you look at the userbase.

You remember when Microsoft purchased Hotmail for 400 million USD. How much revenue did hotmail have ? Not even 1 million $. It was the userbase , future market potential , reputation etc for which microsoft paid that sum.

 

Again DP's registered user base is 110,000 people. Spammers are counted. Duplicated registrants are counted. Banned members are also counted. If I pay $2 per head, that would be only 220k. Don't compare to hotmail, it has millions of users not 10% of a million.

 

Doubt he will sell, if who ever said it DP makes $10k a month... then Shawn obviously doesn't have to work... if he sold DP he would have to find a job (if he hasn't got one already) it would be stepping down in life.

Also he built this up from nothing, why would he chuck it away? I bet it's his baby!

If you were going to pay 600k I would think some this serious would use a Whois Lookup or something and go seem him personally, not post up to get flamed.

He is not answering my emails. That is why I am here. I was even trying to call him up but he didn't pick up the phone. His line is currently busy too. Some people must be calling him about the adsense ban.

 

This isnt his only site, I think i heard somewhere he has other sites making more money this this.

 

Get a lawyer or website broker to contact him?

I'll call him up in he wakes up. Seems to me he's sleeping early and waking up early. If you're one of the callers, I suggest you stop calling now. I could imagine his answering machine got overloaded and blown up.

 

I would think if you serious you would not be airing it here. As he has a direct phone number listed on this site. Then if he was interested you would be on a plane to SoCal to hash out the details. A deal of this size is not done via a forum thread. At the time of my post its 7:15pm PST and his office opens after 8:00am PST during the week. I know it works as I have contacted him using this method.

I also see a lot of potential to monetize dp, including a paid area. If shawn let it go for several hundred thousands, i may partner with some friends and buy it. But i doubt that.

 

End of the day, if DP was going to go up for sale... He wouldnt just sell it.
He would auction it off to get the max possible.
