WSC on FreeBSD

    Shawn,

Tim Carder here. We got the Web Server Connector set up in FreeBSD. I will post instructions here in the forums once we are less busy (hopefully next week) in case anyone else wants to try. I am in the FMPro?config screen right now on our new front end web server. The first page is asking for a user/pass to set up an account. Does this user/pass have to relate to the back end server, or the database server? Or can it be exclusively for this machine (meaning can we create a new user/pass to use on the front end)?

I believe it's exclusive to just the WSC on that machine. It's the admin user for it.

When we get instructions finished for using the Web Server Connector in FreeBSD, would the Optigold discussion list be a good place to post them? I have never seen anything like this on the discussion list before, and I wasn't sure if there was another good resource for Optigold instructions.

Which version of JAVA do we need to run the Web Server Connector? When we try using the Web Server Connector to set up our new front end server (FreeBSD), we are able to view the FMPro?config pages, configure by host, and specify the host IP. When we click on the Add button here, though, we never get the databases page and JAVA crashes on the server. (We are starting the Web Server Connector first, followed by Apache.)

I'm not sure on the specific version of Java, you probably would want to check on FileMaker's site for that.

    Shawn,

You didn't answer all of my questions. Do you not want me to post instructions on our FreeBSD/WSC hack? Or, are you afraid there may be legal implecations with FileMaker?

You are welcome to post anything you want. I don't think FileMaker would care.
