hello, i have read on a website that the next domain names revolution will be in .ws domain names, is that correct? will the .ws be as important as .com now? i just want to go for a .ws domain, but i'd like my website domain name to be brandable, should i go for it? thanks
go for it its the best you can hope for! And then maybe one day when your a internet millionaire youll look back and say Thanks SamiBaba!
I would not recommend until it is not a very good name. .ws is just a cctld for Western Samoa. And it is not marketed as well as another cctld .tv (Tuvalu). It will not be a revolution, but go for it if it is a good domain name. But do not expect to replace the .com. .ws will always be lower in value than .com, .net, .mobi .info or .org, or even .tv. Always. They do not have a good marketing strategy.
You can't expect .ws to be as big as .com. Some registrars, such as Godaddy, seem to be pushing it, but it's not going to happen.
I remember when I used to work at an ISP (Businessserve) about three years ago as a sales person and we all started blagging businesses into registering .ws domain names, .ws stands for Western Samoa, we were telling businesses that it standed for Web Site and that the .ws domain names were going to be the next big thing (this was 3 years ago), three years on and they are not big and they never will be, it was just a good way to screw businesses out of a bit of cash.
Really? Someone's trying to hype things up on their website & get people to buy .ws names! There's no way the next domain revolution will be in the .ws extention. There are better ccTLDs out there that are & will having better growth.
My guess - no. What does it have going for it other than it can stand for "website." But most people don't think that way. They don't even think about what "com" stands for. If anything else becomes "big" it will be the more speific domains - pro, mobi, etc. That's my guess anyway. ... I saw something recently where some "experts" were saying that the very best thing that could happen to the web would be to scrap the whole thing and start over from scratch now that we have a better idea about where it's going. But that will happen when we scrap the whole fossil fuel idea and start over from scratch. The web, like life, like language, like art, like so many things is organic. You can't just scrap it and "start over." If you hope to predict trends, you have to keep that in mind. And with that in mind, I see no reason why ".ws" would be the next big top level domain. A place like godaddy may be pushing it for purely commercial reasons, and as the leading registrar (I believe that's right, isn't it?) they may even impact things a little, but the web is too "organic" to be influenced by a single entity in that way. It may have happened in the past, but the nature of the web goes against all those old school rules. More power is put into the hands of the users.
yea... I don't think ws will ever be anything special... if someone told you the name of a website without the (.ws) for example me: you gotta check out "Example" them: they'll check example.com they're not gonna think about .ws
I really don't think it would ever be big. West Somoa is a small place with a population of about 177,000. I don't think that the .ws would ever hit the mainstream, there are a lot of choices of TLD around and most are a lot cheaper than the .ws domains.
Well, i think that is more than enough NO .WS , long live .COM thanks everybody for sharing your opinions
