Writing titles to Target KW's

when writing a site title to target a kewyord, what are the rules?

    1. How long should the title be?
    2. Should the KW be at the start of the title?
    3. Does it matter if it's broken up (e.g. "Mortgage Las Vegas Nevada - loans online" or"Mortgages for Las Vegas and Nevada State" if you're targeting the KW "Mortgage Las Vegas Nevada")
    4. Repetition in title: Can a KW be used more than once in a tile e.g. "Mortgage Las Vegas Nevada - Mortgages for Las Vegas and the wider Nevada area" or is this frowned on?

Any other things I should consider?

I think this is one of those threads which people will not answer but hope some DP members prove me wrong.

Here is my tip - apologies if you've already used/heard it:

Experiment by publishing the same article using different titles on different article publishing sites. The one with the most traffic is the best.

    Good question. Here goes...

    1. imo 7-8 words no longer. even though you can fit more keywords in the page title, you dilute the importance of the keywords you want to target.

    2. yes.

    3. try and use the exact match phrase if you can, but at the same time you want to write the title for humans not just search engines. i like to use catchy titles which include the targeted keyword, so that way the title will catch the reader's attention and is also good for seo.

    4. it's not necessary to repeat the keyword in the title tag. read point 1 above for the reason. the same concept applies to keyword anchor text with links.

    1. How long should the title be? - Try to Keep Up to 65-70 Characters
    2. Should the KW be at the start of the title? - Most Important For Ranking
    3. Does it matter if it's broken up (e.g. "Mortgage Las Vegas Nevada - loans online" or"Mortgages for Las Vegas and Nevada State" if you're targeting the KW "Mortgage Las Vegas Nevada") - First one is Better
    4. Repetition in title: Can a KW be used more than once in a tile e.g. "Mortgage Las Vegas Nevada - Mortgages for Las Vegas and the wider Nevada area" or is this frowned on? - You may repeat in proper manner (Instead of Just Keeping Search Engine in Mind Also Consider User Point of View)

    I would suggest not repeating
The shorter the title the more concentrated the important will be on the one or two keywords
If possible put the keyword at the start of the title
I try to use 65 characters or less including spaces

this makes great sense for human users, but I'm really looking at writing good titles for SEO - what do the engines like to read

Thanks for the replies guys - keep the feedback coming!

Can some of you take a look at my Mortgage Detroit Michigan site and tell me what you think of the titles/layout?

sure, but you've got to get the humans to see the title first - hence the SEO! you can have the best title in the world but if no one sees it because youre burried at #328 in G it's not going to do you much good.
