Hello, I saw few domains for which owners simply put in "private name" and "private address" in contact info, instead of paying for private registration. What do you think about that, can you get in trouble for something like that?
Trouble? No. Lose the domain? Yes. Whois contact information has to be correct, with a private registration the company, they put in their details and forward you all correspondence regarding the domain. If you just put in "private name" and "private address" there is no way of contacting you so you can lose the domain.
Who contacts you where? They only need email address and you can put a real email in there. I was only talking about changing name and house address line.
You certainly can still have problems, WHOIS privacy or no WHOIS privacy. It is simply a matter of weighing your risks. The question asked is a very tricky one. While I can't give any 100% surefire answer, I can at least provide one "general" example of an "accepted" WHOIS display without showing any "personal" detail: What's important is to be ready to comply with your registrar's standards for displaying complete, accurate WHOIS data upon request. Some are strict, but others can be lenient. But if it indeed shows something like this: The Private Address part is definitely not allowed. Of course, it's a matter of reporting it to the registrar and/or ICANN's WHOIS data problem report.
