You find-out vintage topic. But it is already published by Google and there is brief information available on Wikipedia as well.
There's a book called 'The Google Story' by David A. Vise and Mark Malseed. I'm sure you'll find a PDF version of it online. Go through it and you'll get whatever you need for your article.
Maybe you could focus on a specific niche and look at how Google history from 1997 to 2013 has changed SEO tactics, ranking, etc. specifically for that niche.
