Article Marketing is all about the backlinks if you are blogging. If you aren't getting backlinks, you wont' rank well for some keywords. Therefore, it indirectly sends you traffic this way.

Otherwise, the vast majority of your content should go on your blog and should NEVER be submitted to article directories too.

 

Im more of a contrarian on this. Your articles should never be competing in rankings with your main website. I really think google wouldnt like this. I tried this myself once and the article ranking was taken out quickly.
I think you should always submit ezine articles focused on similar keywords but never teh same to your sites keywords.

 

It really depends on your promotion techniques, if you already get traffic on your site and have loyal social bookmarkers then you can post on your blog but if its new you should stick to just submitting aticles once in a while and updating your blog

I see what you're saying. I was actually addressing the guy who posted and saying that IF you choose to submit your article to an article directory, then you should optimize it to get traffic from the search engines, rather than just depending on traffic from the directories themselves and syndication.

As for the situation you're talking about...it depends. I mostly agree with you, but as article directories sometimes rank really well, if it's a choice between your Ezine Articles submission ranking on the first page of results and your blog post with the same topic ranking on page 3 or 4 for the same keywords, then the EZA article is still better.

It is also possible to have multiple properties of yours rank on the first page for the same keyword. I've done that by rewriting the content of the article and using a slightly different title that still includes the keywords I want to rank for. (although I used Squidoo and blogs, not EZA. But I'd assume it works for EZA as well.)

 

With article marketing though you get the link back. I just checked a particular websites backlinks and they have 20 from one article submit site. They have written (or stolen) 20 articles and posted them, each with links back to their site. Does it matter if they do not get picked up and used...you have already created a backlink to you site, with the chance of more.
