New wp themese pop up every day here, and many are selling sponsored links. I'm wondering how many backlinks can you expect from this? Anyone care to share results
to social network site templates etc? Are links there follow? What do most people use to encrypt the footers? Just curious now.
I think you can get tons of links depending on the look and feel of the WP theme. I know a guy who did this and got close to 500 links.
My site the only links are themes and in 3 months I have 25k links- You can get thousands from them- Depends on how good the theme is...Ofcourse I create themes so that could explain how I built 25k links using themes for a 3 month old site
you actually need to sponsor at least few themes to see some backlinks. i sponsored few themes about 6 months back and yet to see any backlinks. i saw one backlink and that is even gone now. people who use the themes, lot of them remove the footer links. rest just keep changing themes
www.fruitydirectory.com My niche directory has over 35,000 backlinks. I spent around $400 a week for a while sponsoring themes for this site. Its now penalised. If you don't over abuse it (like I did), you'll get a fair amount of backlinks from it. A decent theme like one of beautyinmind's will bring you a few thousand backlinks from PR0-PR4 blogs.
You cannot sponsor crappy themes and expect great results- bottom line is if you wouldnt use a theme on one of your nicest blogs then people won't either- I have themes that have gotten over 1k downloads first month alone and I see it everywhere so it depends on the theme you sponsor- Crappy themes are going to be very cheap because well they are crappy- but the closer the theme looks to a premium theme- the more people happly use it. Its like saying look you can get this premium theme for FREE
You'll only get 1 unique link from it. Your best bet would to try contextual links out of all honesty.
thanks everyone! Lots of good info here.. not so encouraging though What's the usual price for link in a theme? I've seen a few go for around $50 I think
I would tread with caution - these count as paid links - paid links are frowned upon by G and will most likely get you penalised. Stay well clear if I were you, when G does start penalising these will be the most easy to spot "paid links" out there.
That seems somewhat hypocritical to me. The top of the results are all paid ads. In the non-web world people sell ads on everything imaginable. Some are very tasteless actually, but it is perfectly fine. Myself, I don't see links in free software as anything but another form of a paid advertisement. What if people click on them, they are not just for seo benefit.
You are correct and if they do not influence search results they are totally fine, Google states that these tpes of links should be labelled rel="nofollow" in which case if people click - no problem, but they do not influence SERPS. Anyone buying a theme ultimately is trying to manipulate SERPs subsequently I feel that some point in the not too distant future G is going to clamp down on it.
That is not true- I've had people buy themes from a design point of view to get design work business- I've had people buy it for other reasons- When you were buying theme links did you buy it to influence search results- Have you been penalized?
I will have to write something not all will agree but...I am making templates for over 2 years now. I always did those for my own sites and results are 200k or more links pointing to my websites. Not one website was penalized yet...I don't do just WP themes. Other templates to tell you the truth bring you better results Also the simpler the better. With simple templates you will attract academic people not some junk kiddie websites with flashy mumbo jumbo. Oh I forgot. Academic people with .edu links and strong content rarely use wordpress The simplest template that some people here might think is too simple to bid for links brought me 50k+ links and was downloaded more than 100k times from various web sites over 2 years period. It was not Wordpress !!! So yeah....go ahead. Sponsor some links but watch it and think out of the box. Wordpress is not the world !
